Because I can! Pt 9.

I’ve been HEELED!  That’s right folks!  The heels are now FINISHED!

Now don’t get me wrong, short rows are the best, but it’s time to move on.

The process of designing the stitch patterns is underway, and I’ll tell you about a couple of them.

The Sunday sock is in memory of my father.  He was a minister, so it only seems natural that this would be the day to honor him.  After talking with my mom and sister (both talented knitters by the way, not that I’m biased), we decided that a vine pattern would be fitting as it was a symbol that was particularly significant to him.

Tuesday is the night that the local spinner’s and weaver’s guild meets and when I was at their meeting, they suggested a basket weave pattern.  This goes along with the concept of getting organized with everything in its proper place.

Wednesday is the middle of the week, and as many have suggested, a chevron pattern makes a lot of sense here.

Thanks for your notes and comments.  It’s those little notes of encouragement (yes even those that say I’m crazy) that keep this project going!   This method may not be for everyone.  Okay, Okay, I hear you – it may not really be for anyone.  However, I’m enjoying wrapping my brain around this challenge, and would encourage anyone who likes to test themselves once and awhile to join me.  You haven’t got much to lose (except your sanity, which I assume you lost long ago if you even contemplate this), and, you have 7 pairs of socks to gain

  1. I have been following your progress with interest. Yes, I am one of the people who have said it to your face that I think you are nuts. I still think it is a kind of fun and interesting nuts though. I wait with interest to see you keep track of 7 different patterns for each round without getting them confused. I hope from time to time you knit on other things to maintain your sanity otherwise this is an incredibly long time to finish 7 pairs of socks.

  6. Bravo Brian! So when you are finally done, are you really going to remember which day each sock is for and wear them in sequence? I hope so.I am very proud of you for your perseverance and ability to do this and have them fit so well (at least it sure looks good in the photo). I hope you make it to the finish line soon.

  8. Congratulations! So, at this point should one say you are a heel, or better, you are well heeled? My suggestions for patterns would be a bamboo stitch on the Monday sock,(to go with the bamboo content in the yarn) and leave Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday plain, as the yarn has enough going on, a pattern is not needed.

    Oh, and we have met in Kent, I was in a cast to my knee, and you were knitting something red…and we talked music. 🙂

  9. I can’t wait to see the finished socks! Not sure I am going to do a week worth at once but it is definitely time for me to get back to knitting socks.

  10. Your perseverance and tenacity are LEGION. I would have most likely abandoned this long ago. Congratulations on making it this far. I hope the next bit just FLIES!!!

    I am contemplating trying my first 2-toe up on a single circluar. That is if I can figure out how the whole thing works.
